Summary

Nineteen years ago, a parasitic fungal outbreak killed the majority of the world's population。 In one of the few remaining quarantine zones, thirteen-year-old Ellie begins her new life as a ward of a military boarding school, where a friendship with fellow student Riley leads to her first trip into the outside world。 Beyond the walls of the regimented civil order they know, Ellie and Riley are soon confronted with the violent way of life of the insurgent group the Fireflies--and with the monstrous victims of infection!

A nice supplement to The Last of Us。 Nothing super special but definitely worth a read as a fan of the game。

I missed my sweet child <3

Drawings are a bit childish, not the dark atmosphere that should be expected from The Last og Us - the story is ok, but very simple

This was extremely (and disappointingly) short。 It is a prequel graphic novel to Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, and we get to see the backstory of how Ellie and Riley met。 It’s just way too short to really have any substance。 I enjoyed what I read but I felt like there is so much more to tell。 I would love to see more about Ellie’s life leading up to where she is in this novel… and just many other things that can still be expanded on。

This didn't really bring anything new to the table other than clarifying the power struggles between the military and fireflies (plus letting us see how Riley and Ellie meet)。 Still three-fourish stars though because I love this universe and Ellie so much <3 some of the art was really cute too This didn't really bring anything new to the table other than clarifying the power struggles between the military and fireflies (plus letting us see how Riley and Ellie meet)。 Still three-fourish stars though because I love this universe and Ellie so much <3 some of the art was really cute too 。。。more

Pretty cool to find out what happened before The Last Of Us:Left Behind DLC, The Last Of Us part 1 and part 2

Ross Mclatchie

Fab! Fleshes out a little bit of Ellie and Riley’s backstory。 Loses a star for being far, far, too short。

Claire Hayward

God this made me cry it added so much to the story

Farizbenchaoui

Doesn’t add much to the story from the games。

"The Last of Us: American Dreams" is what all tie-in comics should strive to be: a standalone story that works as both a promotion of the main material, while also presenting a story that contains enough depth and narrative/character substance to not merely explain, but actively justify its own existence。 A prequel to the main game, “American Dreams” succeeds primarily for the same reasons that the game does: simple story + complex characters/relationships + genuine emotional stakes = thrilling "The Last of Us: American Dreams" is what all tie-in comics should strive to be: a standalone story that works as both a promotion of the main material, while also presenting a story that contains enough depth and narrative/character substance to not merely explain, but actively justify its own existence。 A prequel to the main game, “American Dreams” succeeds primarily for the same reasons that the game does: simple story + complex characters/relationships + genuine emotional stakes = thrilling storytelling。 Throw in a lean art style by Faith Erin Hicks that perfectly complements the spare nature of the story, and you have a piece of tie-in media that is that all-too rare thing – one that is genuinely a must-read for fans of the core material。 。。。more

Short but sweet。 I think doing a prequel to the prequel was a good idea, gives the graphic novel its own narrative whilst retaining some of the look and feel of the games。 I would have liked it to be more substantial than it was, but there was just enough。

Apparently one prologue released as dlc wasn't enough for The Last of Us (I suppose it would be classed as part 1 now) and so here we have a pre-prologue。 I bet you're dead excited, right?Let me share a little of what happens here: There's some dialogue, some characters you might remember, some downtime, some violence, and a couple of deus-ex machina moments; just in case you weren't sated by these concepts from the main game。You're not missing anything by skipping this。 Apparently one prologue released as dlc wasn't enough for The Last of Us (I suppose it would be classed as part 1 now) and so here we have a pre-prologue。 I bet you're dead excited, right?Let me share a little of what happens here: There's some dialogue, some characters you might remember, some downtime, some violence, and a couple of deus-ex machina moments; just in case you weren't sated by these concepts from the main game。You're not missing anything by skipping this。 。。。more

It was *technically* fine and the art was impressive; the character voice was definitely present。 But for the scope of what we got, this was completely unnecessary。 If you've played the Last of Us, there is zero new information presented here, other than maybe Reilly's age, Ellie's mom's name, and where Ellie got the switchblade。 Everything else is covered either literally so or with heavy implication。 Boston is a shitty war zone。 Ellie is a punk rebel who likes music。 Reilly wants to join the f It was *technically* fine and the art was impressive; the character voice was definitely present。 But for the scope of what we got, this was completely unnecessary。 If you've played the Last of Us, there is zero new information presented here, other than maybe Reilly's age, Ellie's mom's name, and where Ellie got the switchblade。 Everything else is covered either literally so or with heavy implication。 Boston is a shitty war zone。 Ellie is a punk rebel who likes music。 Reilly wants to join the fireflies。Don't feel like you need to pick this up。 It's very competent, just not particularly interesting。 。。。more

A ver, para ser una historia antes de Left Behind me parece entretenido y te da contexto sobre Left Behind。 El dibujo sí está algo meh。 Aunque jamás entenderé del por qué Ellie se encariñó tan rápido con Riley。

I’d say this graphic novel is just for fans of the original game and not something that you could start the story with。 Once you’ve finished the first game, and even better also it’s DLC “Left Behind”, this one can be a nice addition to it。 But then again, if you don’t want to read it, you’re not missing too many things either。

If you're a Last of Us fan and into all the lore, it's definitely worth the 20-30 minutes it takes to read through this。 I wouldn't say it's essential to the overall story, but it does fill in some gaps (more so for the Left Behind DLC than the main game)。 If you're a Last of Us fan and into all the lore, it's definitely worth the 20-30 minutes it takes to read through this。 I wouldn't say it's essential to the overall story, but it does fill in some gaps (more so for the Left Behind DLC than the main game)。 。。。more

(Zero spoiler review)I assure you, I will not be allowing my disdain for significant aspects of The Last of Us Part II to influence my opinion of this book。 I might have had my work cut out for me if this story was anything but an abject slice of bleeding asshole。 Had this had anything approaching some redeemable qualities, I might have felt conflicted over the absolute panning I'm going to give this poor excuse for entertainment。 Luckily for me, I don't have to worry, because this book will be (Zero spoiler review)I assure you, I will not be allowing my disdain for significant aspects of The Last of Us Part II to influence my opinion of this book。 I might have had my work cut out for me if this story was anything but an abject slice of bleeding asshole。 Had this had anything approaching some redeemable qualities, I might have felt conflicted over the absolute panning I'm going to give this poor excuse for entertainment。 Luckily for me, I don't have to worry, because this book will be wholly deserving of everything I say about it。 First of all all, the art is atrocious。 I know that Neil Druckman will self implode if he didn't have a woman collaborating on the book with him, but surely it wouldn't have been difficult to scrape up one with more talent than whoever helped to write and draw this abortion。 I work at a pre school, and I could find a few dozen by tomorrow morning。 This book doesn't look like Ellie, it doesn't sound like Ellie, it doesn't force to reminisce back to the days of TLOU1, and the beloved CHARACTER that Ellie once was。 Instead, we get a bland, boring, bargain basement zombie story, with virtually no zombies in it whatsoever。 Think of what the runners and infected look like in the game, and then have a look at them in this book。。。 I challenge you not to laugh。 Its amateur hour on steroids。 I understand this is a prequel to the game, although every interesting character from the first game is notably absent。 The one character featured (excluding Ellie) was the most generic effort that game offered up, and they've only doubled down on her averageness here。 The dialogue is as dull as dishwater。 The book looks like vomit with a dystopia filter applied, and is about as appealing as a bad case of pubic lice。 Some day they will teach university classes about how to annihilate a popular franchise, with most people choosing to major in TLOU, despite the wealth of competition it has in the 'shit the bed and destroy your fanbase' stakes。 Nothing about this book makes me think nostalgic for that great game, and the great characters it once contained。 This book just makes me sad and angry, although not necessarily in that order, at how you can take something wonderful and so quickly and thoroughly flush it down the shitter。 A TLOU comic could have quite easily been a big ongoing hit, although with this as its opening salvo, no wonder there was no follow up。 If you have any love for what this franchise used to be, avoid this book like the plague (of pubic lice)。 I'm really annoyed as I had the pleasure of reviewing numerous 5 star books in a row, and then I had to go and read this, although more fool me for my optimism。 1/5OmniBen。 。。。more

I’ve been wanting to play this game for some time now, and since this is technically a prequel to the game it only felt right to read this first。 I don’t know a whole lot about the game, but I really enjoyed this。 It was a little short for my taste but I really enjoyed it, and it did make me want to check the game out sooner。

As a HUGE fan of Naughty Dog's The Last Of Us Games I really wanted to read this and it was useful to learn how Ellie meet Raily and how Raily got part to be in the Fireflies and more into Ellie's past a year before she meets Joel and gets the cure bit mark but it was enjoyable to read and I recommend it for those Last Of Us fans。 As a HUGE fan of Naughty Dog's The Last Of Us Games I really wanted to read this and it was useful to learn how Ellie meet Raily and how Raily got part to be in the Fireflies and more into Ellie's past a year before she meets Joel and gets the cure bit mark but it was enjoyable to read and I recommend it for those Last Of Us fans。 。。。more

This comic is the first one in a series of four。 It shows the story before the game: 'The Last Of Us'。 In my opinion you should keep this comic until you finish the game。 It gives you a better understanding of the game its DLC "Left Behind"。 The Comic is beautifully illustrated and it fits the theme of 'The Last Of Us'。 The stories are quite short (25 pages per comic), but they give you a nice portayel of Ellie at the age of 13。 This comic is the first one in a series of four。 It shows the story before the game: 'The Last Of Us'。 In my opinion you should keep this comic until you finish the game。 It gives you a better understanding of the game its DLC "Left Behind"。 The Comic is beautifully illustrated and it fits the theme of 'The Last Of Us'。 The stories are quite short (25 pages per comic), but they give you a nice portayel of Ellie at the age of 13。 。。。more

I had some high hopes for this story and while entertaining I was left wanting more from this, especially as a mega fan of both games and DLC。 I hope more there’s more graphic novel adaptations to come。

It’s okay! Very very short but a quick fun read if you’re a fan of the game。 Definitely wouldn’t pay full price for it!

I’ve not played The Last of Us video games, but I’ve hear they’re excellent and beautifully written!
